Wedding planning has taken a dramatic digital turn in the last year with many or most event-related meetings taking place in virtually. For us, connecting and creating with our clients virtually is something we have been doing for a few years—consultations are scheduled, dresses selected, customized, designed, perfected and then shipped to you.
“We have many international clients we work with based in New York, Los Angeles and London, so virtual appointments and designs are something we are very familiar with and comfortable with,” explains Nikki Wirthensohn Yassemi, our creative director, designer and founder. “One of my favourite pre-pandemic experiences was working with a bride based in London on her dress. I did actually have the chance to meet with her and doing her final dress fitting and arrange alterations as I was in the city for a fashion week presentation at the time.”
Here Nikki shares more about the NARCES virtual wedding dress creation process.
Making A Personal Connection
“I find virtual appointments can actually be more intimate and personal as the focus is on connecting more,” Nikki says. “We arrange meetings through Zoom or Facetime, whichever is most convenient. During the initial consults, we present ideas just as we would with an in-person appointment—dress styles, silhouettes, fabrics and special details are discussed. Once we have the vision in place, dress creation begins and follows our typical design process and timelines. We schedule regular check in calls as the dress comes to life to connect on progress.”
The Design Timelines
Designing your dress virtually can actually help speed up the production process because calls are quick, efficient and require zero travel time to commute to meetings. We work hard to accommodate timeline requests, and if required we can turn things around as quickly as one or two months before your wedding date. Like all custom pieces, this is of course dependent on many factors including fabrication and the workmanship required to produce all the fine details. For a highly customized gown where we are making everything including the fabric six to nine months from final design sign off is a realistic turnaround time
Special Delivery Details
Once your dress is finished, we will have one last virtual appointment to showcase the final products and confirm all details are in place before shipping. Leading up to this, we send photos of progress updates from the various design stages. You will be able to see the silhouette and structure of the garment and we will also share where hand embellishments and details will be placed before attaching so tweaks can be made. For alterations, we have international partners we work with. We would set up an appointment—with us connecting virtually—to ensure the fit is perfect. If the alterations are more than minor revisions, we will ship the gown back to us to complete them then have another final fitting.
